Spring Cleaning: 5 Decluttering Tips

Decluttering your home should be made simple: go through your stuff and get rid of everything that isn’t absolutely essential, you don’t love, or use often.  But actually doing this task can be difficult for people who struggle with clutter.  Here are some helpful tips that make this year’s spring clean-up a breeze.

  1. Pick one room at a time.Don’t get overwhelmed with the entire house, pick one room and don’t move on until it’s the way you want it.
  2. Separate items in piles: one for keeping, one for donating, one for the trash.
  3. Fill up at least one trash bag.You will surprise yourself at how much of what you collect can actually be thrown away.
  4. Give away at least one item. You’ll feel better about giving the things you value to someone who can actually use them.
  5. Ask a trusted friend for help.Having someone who doesn’t have an emotional attachment that you do will help keep things in perspective and above all, have some fun!
